This month’s Ask Coach Kathy discusses Thanksgiving hostess burnout and that it’s okay to opt out.
Thanksgiving is around the corner and I’m done! I’ve hosted 23 people at our house for the last 17 years and I just can’t do it anymore. How do I get out of this tradition?
Although people in your family or your circle of friends most likely expect you to be the hostess because of the long-standing tradition, it’s perfectly okay for you to let everyone know (sooner than later) that you are opting out of hosting it.
You don’t have to give a list of reasons why or make excuses. You simply say, you’ve decided not to do it anymore.
When reality sets in, my guess is someone will step up to the challenge, or if that isn’t the case, perhaps you’ll all meet at a restaurant. Either way, you’ll be together and that’s what’s important.
