Since we’re not able to enjoy our usual activities and trips this summer, this month’s Ask Coach Kathy provides ideas to embrace a ‘Staycation’.
I am sooo bored at home this summer. We miss dining out at all of our favorite restaurants. What can a couple do while in their home to keep life interesting?
My husband and I have decided to embrace the meaning of Staycation. In this era of COVID-19, this requires thinking outside of the box!
Although you may not be dining at restaurants, you can still support your local favorites, but get creative with the venue. Do you have any different nooks and crannies in your front or backyard? Maybe a special tree under which you could dine? My husband and I strung backyard lights in some trees and it has transformed our environment. We also purchased a small water fountain so we can enjoy the sound similar to a babbling brook.
Dick and I have taken to riding our bikes once a day and make a coffee shop our destination. We find a place to social distance and share a cold drink.
The other day, we took our doggie, Nellie, to the opposite side of town. We are lucky enough to live on Lake Erie, so we spent 20 minutes driving along our lake, as Nellie kept her snout out the car window.
These are simple excursions and dining options, but they give us a chance to enjoy the small things in life. This is going to be SO trite, but I’m going to say it anyway … joy and wonder are right in our own backyard, whether that be behind our house, in our neighborhood, or in our city.
Take this opportunity to look, really look, at what is right in front of you. And enjoy.
