This month’s Ask Coach Kathy is about a spouse that is NOT a handyman.
My husband is not good with fixing things and it drives me crazy. For just a simple problem with a stopped up drain, we have to call a plumber. To replace a shower head is a huge deal. I’m so frustrated.
It sounds like house repair may not be your husband’s strength. And, you know what? That’s okay. I’m sure he has other strengths. Perhaps he’s more adept at technology or is artistic and can draw or paint.
Rather than trying to shove a square peg into a round hole, I recommend you accept your mate’s strengths and weaknesses and play to his strengths. Otherwise, you’ll remain frustrated and he’ll take on the feeling of chronic inadequacy. Hire out and enjoy what your husband does do well!
