This month’s Ask Coach Kathy talks about taking the initiative to show you care.
I go through this every year the week before Valentine’s Day … I feel immobilized. I never know what to do for my wife. I’ve never been very romantic and I’m so afraid whatever I do won’t be right, so I end up doing nothing. Help!
Okay, I totally understand the intimidating nature of this upcoming holiday. Valentine’s Day is hyped up starting right after New Years. I will say this, not doing anything is not an option.
I’ve been a relationship coach for 29 years and I can say with assuredness that what women find most romantic in their partner is for him/her to initiate … anything! The subtext to initiating is that you took the time and effort to think of doing something on your own. It can have to do with a household project, starting a conversation, initiating nonsexual physical affection. In some cases, it could be initiating a sexual connection. Whatever you initiate, here is the translation: I initiated _________ because I was thinking of you. Boom. Done. Game over.
