Summer was fun with our 3 kids, but we are unashamedly happy they are back in school. The biggest problem with our children starting school again is transitioning from our summer schedule to a more regimented school calendar. My husband and I find ourselves having little patience and snap at each other. Any ideas on how to help us with this transition?
Yes! I recommend whenever you have a transition in life that affects your children, which is often because with kids, there are a lot of changes, that you and your husband plan a “transition gathering” with your children. Obviously, if your children are under the age of four, it might be tough to keep their attention. If that’s the case, you and your husband have a “transition meeting.” Here is what is discussed at the meeting:
- In what ways will everyone’s life change/shift in the near future?
- What are everyone’s feelings about the shift?
- What can be done specifically to help the transition go smoothly for each person?
Have a follow-up “transition gathering” to check on everyone’s successes and what needs tweaking.
Try this and let me know the results of your efforts!
