This month’s Ask Coach Kathy question is about Practical Life.
We have identified strategies that seem to work to bring our relationship to a better place, but they don’t stick. We always end up falling back into “roommate living,” even if we used certain strategies for 6 months or more. Not sure why or how to maintain?
Part of being human means that we develop habits. Unfortunately, negative habits tend to creep back into our existence, even when we learn new information to replace them. So, when you go for a long stretch using your strategies and the old habit of moving around one another like roommates sneaks back in, notice it and reset your relationship by grabbing onto your strategies again and move forward. Just know that we all “fall off the horse” in life, and that just means we have to dust ourselves off and get back on. The fact that you’ve had a good six months is something to celebrate!
