The Huffington Post posted an article recently entitled, 5 Signs Your Marriage is On Shaky Ground. These are 5 basic signs your marriage is getting rocky enough that you might want to consider seeking professional help:
1. You go to bed at different times.
This is an all-too common issue for couples. Whether they work different shifts, have different biological clocks, or are just in the habit of going to bed at different times, not getting under the covers within 5 minutes of each other is a sign of disconnection. It’s subtle, but going to be alone night after night becomes a lonely part of the day.
2. You feel ambivalent about your partner.
Believe it or not, negative feelings toward your mate are better than no feelings at all. At least with negative feelings, it means you care enough to get angry or feel sad. Feeling nothing is the worst.
3. You are out alone and only talk about the kids.
Your children are important, or you wouldn’t have decided to have them. They can, however, become “the new spouse.” In other words, their care and lives can consume you and your mate so much that they become the top priority 100% of the time. Not only do you do a disservice to your relationship, you do a disservice to your children by making them the center of your lives 24/7.
4. You STOP arguing.
Although not the best way to connect, arguing with your mate creates at least some kind of connection, even though it’s a negative one. It’s when you’ve both given up so much that you don’t even argue that your relationship may be in serious trouble.
5. You no longer have each others passwords on social media.
If you start to have secret passwords for social media, pay attention to your motives. Are you hiding something from your spouse? If the answer is “Yes,” then stop what you’re doing!
