The holiday season, a time of love and closeness between people, ironically, can become a time where people feel isolated. The hub bub of the season can easily distract you and your mate from each other. There are ways, however, to stay close with your mate in the coming weeks and build some traditions around your relationship.
I have a client who gave me permission to share what she is doing this year to help her and her husband stay close and anticipate the holiday season. Her ancestors are from England, and one of the holiday traditions there is to put stockings on the bed post. Rather than hanging them by the chimney, as we do in the United States, adults and children wake up to goodies and surprises at the foot of the bed.
My client says, “I loved the idea so much that I decided to knit stockings for both me and my husband. Although our kids will still have their stockings hung on the mantle, we’re going to fill ours secretly and hang them on the bed posts by the foot of the bed.”
I LOVE this idea! Sometimes it just takes one small shift to feel closer to your mate during the holidays. To learn more ways to stay close to your mate, click here.
