For a relationship to stand the test of time, it takes work, but here are some tips to help with it.
One of my clients found this list on a website (not sure which one): 40 Rituals that Make Relationships Last 40+ Years.
Although I cannot quote the source, I find what is on the list very interesting and wanted to pass them along. The first 20 will be in this blogpost and the next 20 will be in May’s blogpost. Enjoy!
- Embrace each other’s flaws.
- Give him/her a chance, and another, and another.
- Expect there to be some bumps in the road.
- Don’t let others decide what is right for your relationship.
- Give up control.
- Be willing to be wrong.
- Make peace with each other as often as necessary.
- Forgive each other.
- Be patient with each other.
- Build trust, and exercise trust in each other.
- Make plenty of time for each other.
- Pay attention to the little moments.
- Compliment each other whenever it’s deserved.
- Give more than you take.
- Be willing to do more than your part.
- Encourage each other, through thick and thin.
- Be honest, always.
- Follow through with your promises.
- Work together.
- Talk to each other, not about each other.
