Avoiding Vacation and Relationship Blues

This month’s Ask Coach Kathy question is about taking a vacation that works for both of you.

talk about your vacations prior to booking themMy husband and I vacation for two weeks in the summer every year. We try to go to different places so that we don’t get bored. By the time we get back, we feel drained from miscommunication and built up resentments. What can we do to feel better on vacation?

Many couples make a common mistake before vacationing together. They forget to answer the all-important question, “What kind of vacation do I want?”

In other words, do you want your vacation to be an activity vacation of sightseeing, shopping, dining out, and entertainment or do you want your vacation to be a more relaxing, unscheduled trip?

Once you and your husband answer that question for one another, you will be clear on what to expect. Your vacation can be a compromise of the two types. Just be clear on what type you want and what you specifically want to do within each type.

Do you have sensitive issues in your relationships that you need help with?
