In the last decade, technology has become a huge distraction when it comes to relationships. Whether you’re married or dating, the absence of boundaries in using technology can create a big stressor between partners. Nowhere is this more prevalent than in a couple’s dating life. When on a date, I recommend you turn off your Blackberry, phone, or any other device so that you and your mate can be in the present moment with each other. In my mind, the only reason to keep your line of communication open to the outside world while on a date is when you have an extenuating circumstance that requires you to keep your phone nearby and working, such as a sick relative or a child who needs to get a hold of you. Other than that, hit the off button!
We have become so attached to our ability to be contacted any time of day or night that someone has created a list of ways to sneak a text on a date. I hope you don’t use these, but they illustrate my point. To see the list, click here.
