Stormy Skies & Spoiled Food: A Journey of Teamwork & Triumph

In the span of your relationship with your mate, my guess is you’ve had to deal with one or more crises. If you live in the Cleveland area, you are familiar with the major storms that ripped through our communities a few weeks ago. My husband and I lost power for 3-1/2 days but, luckily didn’t have any damage to our home or property. What this unexpected weather event did for us was exercise our teamwork muscle. We work as a team on many levels on a daily basis: one of us walks our dog, while the other takes out the garbage bins; one of us cooks, and the other cleans up, etc. Teamwork is not foreign to us, but working side-by-side in a crisis is not something we practice very often. When we realized we might not have power for a few days, we quickly put an emergency plan in place. First on the list was a trip to Home Depot to purchase battery-operated lanterns. After sleeping in our home without electricity for two nights, and therefore without air conditioning, we quickly accepted an offer from my brother and sister-in-law to stay in their home. During the day we would return to our house and empty our fridge and freezer, because all of the food had spoiled. In the midst of feeling uprooted and out of sorts, I got food poisoning from some takeout food (obviously, we couldn’t cook). So not only did we work as a team to put our routine back in place, we worked as a team to put my stomach back in place. We are so grateful a tornado didn’t touch down in our neighborhood. Apparently, there were 10 tornado sitings all around us. As bad as life can get at times, it does give us the opportunity to step up, lean on each other, and show us what our relationship is made of - and that’s awesome!

Harnessing the power of partnership. In your relationship with your mate, I guess you’ve had to deal with one or more crises. If you live in the Cleveland area, you are familiar with the major storms that ripped through our communities a few weeks ago. My husband and I lost power for 3 1/2 days […]
